2012 Scooter Motor
India Yamaha Motors will be recalling a total of 56, 000+ Ray scooters. A recent field study conducted revealed that there could be some problems with the handlebar of the said vehicle, which if left unattended, in extreme conditions may even affect steering operations. The company had decided to recall these vehicles and replace the handlebars of these 56, 000 units free of charge to customers.
During these tests it was noticed that there was insufficient strength in the handlebars due to improper welding. The company has commenced these voluntary recalls through a Ray Refresh Campaign. It will be conducted from all Yamaha Motors dealerships in the country and customers are being notified via e mail and phone calls to bring their Ray scooters in for a replacement of the defective part.
This Ray Refresh Campaign is exclusively for Ray scooters and does not include the Ray Z variant which was recently launched. No complaints of accident or injury to rider were reported, but the glitch is being attended to on a war footing nevertheless. Yamaha is said to have sold close to 90, 000 units of Ray scooter ever since it was launched in September 2012.
