As the race was about to begin, the clever money was always on Kevin to produce the goods as he always had done in the past. He revved is 125cc scooter hard and looked into the distance. Now is the time to prove himself against the best competition in Europe.
The race was over 12 miles of rough country terrain. His off the road scooter or moped would soon be going wheel to wheel against some of the riders he had looked up to only a few years earlier as his fledgeling off-road biking career began. He remembered the first time he saw that scooters for sale sign in the shop window and how much he’d look forward to trying his new moped out when he got home.
The following season he had placed in the top three in five of its eight races, many said it was down to his fearless and direct riding approach. He would pull his 125cc scooter around the track at great speed always looking to the shortest route always taking the 50-50 chance and because he had the courage of his convictions he often came out on top.
Many who lined up to this race would not have realised that he wrote to work every day on a 50cc moped. He had seen the second-hand scooters for sale sign on his local newspaper and had to buy it. It was a Vespa and something you’ve always wanted to own. He was glad he wore a full face helmet when he rode it because many of his contemporaries lining up here for this important race would have laughed off the track had they had known of his secret 50cc moped.
The race started, Kevin twisted the throttle on his 125cc scooter and off they went. Twisting around the bends and the first hill is moped began to lose power, he looked and saw his exhaust pipe had been severely damaged in the start and was not allowing enough oxygen. This was the worst possible thing to happen. He stood no chance and decided to pull over to the side of the track. He was tempted to kick his 125cc scooter but instead kicked a yew tree planted near where he stood. He was so frustrated.
He watched the other races ride past and thought back to the day where he had spent his pay cheque on classic scooters for sale at his local scooter dealership. He wished he had that money now because he was going to need some of it to repair his broken moped. He watched the other races go past on the first lap. Three laps of approximately 4 miles each, and all he could do was sit and watch he picked up his bike and pushed it back to the starting line disgruntled.

What I can't give a pass to is scooters. They are slow, underpowered, handle like shit, are insanely expensive considering what you get, and just plain dorky looking. The main argument for buying a scooter is that you don't have to learn how to work a big scary clutch. Yeah, scooters are automatic, while with a few very rare exceptions, motorcycles actually require you to shift gears all by yourself. With all of the other skill required to navigate traffic on two wheels, being worried about having to work a clutch seems to me a lot like having a 3 pack a day Marlboro habit and your primary concern being the complexity of working all ashtrays

I know some may cringe, but I am looking at getting onto a motorcycle for the first time, because of many reasons.
1 - Gas is farking expensive
2 - I will be moving a little bit farther away from my work
3 - Parking for motorcycles near my work is free
So as you can see I have more reasons than just because of gas.
The truth is I don't even plan on riding on the freeway, I have a pretty straight shot to work from my house, on a major expressway/large high-speed limit road.
I am looking at getting a 1970's-1980's Honda CB 400 or something of that caliber
