Scooters, mopeds and the licence
Mopeds, Scooters, and Maxi Scooters Buying Guide

What a bloody minefield!I am thinking about getting our lass either a 49cc scooter or an electric moped for her birthday and I've been Googling for info on the licence requirements, only to discover that there are lots of mixed opinions and contradictions.

She gained her car licence in 1994 (late starter!) so what is the situation with regards to:

Does she have to do a CBT?
Does she need to have L plates?

Any opinions on thos 'leccy scooters would be good too. I know she could get an EAPC with pedals that'll do 15mph and not have to have a helmet or any licence but it's a bit too much like a push bike!

Ta.

CA scooter and moped questions

To start, I have checked out a ton of websites with information regarding when you need to have a motorcycle license in CA regarding certain mopeds and scooters. No need for more links (many of which aren't up to date). I apologize for all the questions. I have been trying to call the DMV days now and keep getting disconnected....
I just read on dmv.org that you do not need ANY license if the moped you have does not go more than 20 mph. Do they make non kiddish mopeds like this that go at 15-20 an hour? I have tried finding these online and have had little luck.

Erratic riders, the mopeds are generally steady riders, but the scooters have all types riding and they can be very scary with a lot of not so skilled riding, they take off too fast off the line and are always racing and generally a bit of a nuisance on the road, I now have a loud honda cb700 with very loud almost straight pipes with a tiny yoshimura can with no baffles, I like scaring the hell out of them when I open it up as I pass them after letting them think they came off the line fast enough, I have noticed that now that I have loud pipes I never use my horn anymore, on my yamaha seca I

  • Avatar Turquoise R What's up with the kill switch on my moped?
    Jun 24, 2007 by Turquoise R | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs

I know it shuts down the power on the bike. Do I have to put it in the off position everytime I turn my bike off? I have a 2002 Maliguti Ciak 40 with a key ignition to start, turn off the engine, and lock the steering column. I'm guessing I don't need to use the kill switch after I'm done with it everyday. I read somewhere that can even damage the bike :-<

    • No need to use the kill switch at all unless in an emergency you need to shut the engine off in a hurry. Thats all its for. Most motorcycles have kill switches on the handle grip for this purpose. Always leave the kill switch closed or the mopid won't start.
