Mopeds for Sell
As gas prices creep up, I see fewer Mopeds for sale by owner. There was the time when everybody had mopeds and scooters gathering dust in a remote corner of their shop that you could buy for less than a 100 but NO MORE! Bikers are taking the time to repair them, get them cranked and turn them over to the college kids to save some money or selling them online to eager shoppers searching for vintage mopeds for cheap money. In lots of places, kids use them to get to school because you can get a license to drive a moped before you can get a drivers' license for a regular motorcycles or a car. I'm not sure I can get behind turning a kid loose in traffic on one but there you go...some government official maybe thinks it's a good idea.

I can remember back in the day when a real biker wouldn't be caught dead on one of these bikes but paper boys and the drug store delivery guys were always looking for cheap, used mopeds for sale. One reason is because they are both CHEAP to buy and to gas up!
WHAT IS A MOPED?
The name "Mopeds" came from the fact that they used to have pedals like a bicycle. They were a hell of a lot harder to push, but that's where the term originated if you're into the history of these little bikes.
GAS OR ELECTRIC MOPEDS
I see more used gas mopeds in classifieds than I do electric mopeds. Most of the gas models are old Honda Mopeds or bikes that have been converted. The new electric mopeds for sale that we've received in Strike Lightning's Used Motorcycles for Sale are 500 Watts and look more like motor scooters to me. I suppose I'll always associate the name, moped, with a motorcycle that has pedals.

Like everyone else (at least most), I feel the 3.60 per gallon particularly hard in the wallet area. So I've decided to buy a moped.
I have about 700 dollars I can put towards one, but I'm a little stuck. It seems for 500-700 I can get a decent shape used one with relatively few miles on it from someone on CL. These ones are usually the older style that more resemble a motorcycle than a scooter. 50cc and under is what I'm going for, by the way. Can't afford to have to insure something else ontop of a car!
On the other end, I've found a few websites that sell mopeds/scooters brand new
I would love to buy a $1000 car right now2013-02-06 14:36:58 by -
My car was totalled by an unlicensed, at-fault driver. His ins is not negotiating in good faith. I am desperate for something reliable to get me to and from work. I'm willing to give up appearance. I want a 4-door sedan, but will settle for 2-door, hatchback, etc. Heck, I'm even looking at mopeds.
Around here, seems everyone thinks they should get $1,000 to $2,000 more than kbb of excellent at dealer. And their cars are lousy condition.
Then, the sellers won't answer emails or their phones. How do they expect to sell? Seems most must be scams.
