You can NOT legally put a gas motor on a bike!

2009-05-24 09:29:57 by fly_boy

PLEASE be aware that in BC you can NOT put a gas motor on a bicycle and ride it on the street! Even if you want to get it inspected and license it as a moped you CAN"T they will turn you down flat! Power assisted bikes are ELECTRIC by legal definition in BC. ( and limited to 350 watts VERY low power) 18 MPH max level no pedal speed. NO GAS ENGINES ARE ALLOWED
I was building one of these machines. I got a Schwinn O.C.C. Chopper, The special engine mount needed for that frame and a smaller than usual rear sprocket to make up for the small diameter of the rear wheel. I went to a used bike and parts store to get headlights, tila lights etc

I'm a 23/F though, so I don't mind being seen on a moped, haha.
And small mopeds are street-legal but don't require a special license, or registration or insurance... so it's way cheaper for a poor college student such as myself.
I've seen so many of them around LV. They must be somewhat practical. I'm just thinking of using it for daytime riding, to and from UNLV. And to buy groceries, which I can carry in my backpack. Maybe a 20 mile round trip, at the most.

It is not legal to park at bike rack

Hey I ride bikes Ive also ridden vespas and lambrettas for over ten years. I do no agree with riding in bike lane. I notice that most of the ones that do have their feet hanging out from there scooter. I tend to catch up to them at stop lights and yell nasty things. It has happend quite a bit lately. from the jerk in lincoln park who lane splitt to pull in front of a car at a stop light. to the girl riding a green small frame and was riding in high gear and the noise annoyed me so much i finally yelled at her to shift!
It is not legal to park at a bike rack no matter how many cc's it is

    Thank you!

    • Avoid like the plague.

Get a little Yamaha, Honda, Vespa - a recognisable brand (and not a cheap Chinese bike). They will be more reliable, easier to fix, hold their value better, and you can raid the
Advice? Just relax. Even a twist-and-go scooter is great fun to ride, as long as you're careful.

  • Avatar Natasha How feasible is a long-distance scooter trip on a 50cc scooter?
Apr 29, 2011 by Natasha | Posted in Other - Cars & Transportation

I would like to ride my scooter from Daytona, FL to Atlanta, GA solo. I have a 05 Retro 50cc scooter. How feasible is this idea and what tips do you have?

    • Well its 436 miles and your poor little scooter would be long dead before you ever got partway, you need a much bigger bike to go 6 hours or so at high speed comfortably and then, you have to turn around and go home on a small bike like a 250 your whole body would be buzzing when you stopped from the vibration of the handle bars. You need to find a better way to do it than your scooter, it will not make it sorry.
