Buying a used 50cc Scooter/Moped

2009-02-26 14:28:19 by miss42069

I am thinking about buying a used scooter off craigslist. But do not know much about these things (typical girl, I suppose). What should I look out for? How do I know if I'm getting a good price? I looked around online, and that helped a little, but I really wish I had someone to go with me to look at it, or a local place to take it to be looked at before I buy. Thing is, I don't have a lot of money to pay someone to check it over (that's why I'm getting a scooter in the first place). Any tips, suggestions, or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Selling price of used moped

Hi there all, i'm wanting to buy a used moped in the near future for the fuel savings, as i will be starting college soon and will be short on money for the next couple of years, and had a few questions. I live in kentucky, and was told that mopeds under 50cc dont require an operating license or insurance due to their small size, low speed, and lack of presence on highways. i was wondering if anyone knew the specific law regarding this, or if it was true or not. also, in order to save money i'll be looking for a used moped in my area. i was wondering if anyone knew the going price for a used one in good condition (ie running and save, dont care about the looks) in my area, and what dealers sell them

May 31, 2010 by Wonderful | Posted in Motorcycles

I'm 20, male and in the UK. I recently sold my car and I am looking to get a motorbike because of the cost involved.

What things do I need to consider when buying a bike? Like in car, you look for age, mileage, etc etc...how do i know which bike should cost what!!??

    please help me out.

I want the bike that gives the most mpg(miles per gallon) and I'm not too fussed with the engine size-only the mpg.

    • Hey,
Great question, and good on ya for ditching the car in favour of a bike. I rode for years before family life forced me to get a car for the weekly commuting stuff. But I've always managed to keep a bike too. …nd to spend I'd look at the Kawasaki Versys. It's got great reviews, has a strong but very usable engine, and very good fuel efficiency (mpg). There are 48 for sale on biketrader.co.uk at the minute - lots to choose from!

  • Avatar Discus Ted Is there a price guide publication for motorcycles and scooters as there is for cars?

    Particularly interested in 50cc scooters.
Think the car one is called Glass's Guide? Is there an equivalent one that includes scooters, or maybe there's a suitable a magazine?

    • Check your regional Craigslist > for sale > motorcycles for used scooter values.

If you have some mechanical aptitude, a China "crate" scooter might also be an option. The larger the wheels, the better they handle.
      Buying Guide
49cc 4-stroke scooters have a top speed of around 30-35 mph. If you need to keep up with 45 mph traffic, consider a 150cc 4-stroke.
